An Ecumenical Approach to Modeling Visual Search: Guided Search and Its Friends

Jeremy Wolfe - Keynote

There are a wide range of models of visual search. On first glance, these might seem to be mutually exclusive. However, this is not the case. In this talk, I will describe the basic properties of the current version of the Guided Search model. I will consider the relationship of Guided Search to other models. In some cases, different models describe the same aspect of visual search in similar ways. In other cases, models describe complementary aspects of phenomena with one model describing in detail a feature that another model barely mentions. Diametrically opposed positions are rarer than one might think.
